Fellowship with God (Access and Hope)

Rom 5:2 ‭'Through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God."

Access to God

Access to God is having an opportunity to be found in God's goodness.

Not everyone has access to God.

Matt 7:21 says "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven."

Isaiah 59:1-2 has the answer as to why some people's access is blocked.

Sin Blocks Access

Titles even clerical titles do not grant access.

We ought to have the mind of Christ; evil thoughts, or sin of any nature hinder  access.

Those who have access to God know and do what He commands. 1 John 2:4

Through having access to God,

 1. You are made righteous through God, by faith (Rom 3:22, Phil 3:9)

1 John 3:1 says, 'See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.'

 2. You are perfected

Heb 10:14 "For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified."

 3. You are glorified

Col 1:12

'Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.'

Hope in the Glory of God

The hope in the glory of God is one of the benefits of being in fellowship with God.

Hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised, and its strength is in His faithfulness.

The Word of God tells us not to not let our hearts be troubled because we believe in God (John 14:1)

According to Heb 12:2, hope is looking unto Jesus the author and the perfector of our faith.

Our hope can only be found in Christ Jesus.

Prov 23:5 says that riches certainly make themselves wings and fly away. Do not set your eyes on them.

This is to indicate that our confidence should not be in material possessions, or what our efforts can grant us.

Without hope, life loses its meaning.

The writer of lamentations, laments in Lam 3:18 in these words, and I said, “My strength and my hope Have perished from the Lord.”

Job 7:6 says 'my days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle and are spent without hope.'

Our confidence is in God's Word.

Pro 23:18 says that your expectations/hope shall not be cut off, while Rom 8:18 says that our present sufferings are not worth comparing to the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Whilst the outer man wastes away, yet in the inside we are being renewed day by day. (2 Cor 4:16)

Hope is among the three things that remain, or rather the three things that we should never lose.

The other two are faith and love. 1 Cor 13:13

Psalms 28:7 "The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,And with my song I will praise Him."

There are many reasons why you ought to put your hope in God, including,

1. He directs you

2. He provides for you

3. He protects you

4. He helps you
