Four types of hearts when it comes to receiving the word of god
In Luke 8:5-15, Jesus told the multitudes of a parable involving seeds.
In summary, a farmer went out to sow seeds. The seeds fell into Four different areas.
1. Along the path
2. Rocky ground
3. Among thorns
4. On good soil
Jesus continued to elaborate the parable to the disciples on what exactly He was talking about, from verse 11 of the same chapter.
From the parable and Jesus' explanation, there are four types of people that hear and receive the Word of God (seed) today.
In this article we will look at the different types of Hearts when it comes to receiving from God.
1. The Hard Hearts
These types of people/hearts receive the Word but the devil takes it away from them.
These are the seeds that fell along the path. The Word says that such seeds are trampled upon.
It is hard to convince a hard-hearted person to receive Christ. They will listen to you speak, but they are too hardened to take your words into consideration.
Signs Of A Hard Heart
• They think that their way is the best even though it's falling.
• They get offended for being corrected.
• They seem like they have accepted but they have rejected it in their hearts. Prov 12:15 'The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.'
• They lack spiritual understanding. How will they understand when their hearts aren't even open to knowledge?
• They rebel against the will of God
• They know everything. It is good to have a teachable spirit. We are all students in this life.
2. Shallow Hearts
These are the hearts that receive the Word but fall into temptations easily. These are the seeds that fell on rocky ground according to the parable.
Although the seeds came up, they lacked moisture and hence withered.
These people will receive the word, but take off at the sight of temptations and difficulties.
3. Thorny Hearts
These are the people/hearts that receive the Word but get choked by the cares of the world. These are the seeds that fell among thorns.
After a while, they could not withstand the choking. That's how believers in this category end up in the world again.
They are easily attracted by the pleasures of life.
Remember that backsliding doesn't happen at once. It starts with desires that slowly grow into sinful living. The wages of sin is death.
James 1:15 'Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.'
4. The Good Hearts (Noble hearts)
These believers receive the Word and produce fruits after persevering. These seeds fell on good soil. It is God's desire that we would all be in this category.
A believer that yields fruits is firmly grounded on the Word of God. The cares, comforts, challenges, and situations of this world can never dictate their relationship with God, or come between them and God.
These are mature believers. They understand that God is God no matter the season.
What kind of heart/believer are you? Remember that your heart could also be hardened when it comes to applying the Word of God in life.
There are born-again Christians who deliberately ignore some parts of the scriptures.
Remember that all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. (2 Tim 3:16)
