Spirit of discouragement

05 Jan 2022 | By Pst. Gitahi Daniel

Discouragement is loss of enthusiasm. It is a feeling where one becomes less hopeful and confident about something.

Discouragement is a tool/weapon that the devil uses against believers, so that they give up on faith/chasing their God-ordained destinies.

When you are expectant for long, you tend to get discouraged. When hope changes its course, discouragement is somehow unavoidable hence Prov 13:12, Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

Do not allow discouragement to have a toll on your life, whether or not you have encountered failure.

There are Three Fs in Discouragement

1. Fatigue

Fatigue is extreme tiredness caused by mental and physical exertion.

Do you feel too tired to even pray? Do you find it hard to do things you used to do before like fasting, reading the Word of God and serving in Church? You are fatigued.

Elijah in 1 Kings 19:4, was so drained and exhausted that he wished he could die. He fled from Jezebel into the wilderness, where discouragement took over him.

2. Frustration

When you have worked hard, but have nothing to show for it, you will most likely get frustrated. Frustrations come as a result of failed expectations/fruitless labour.

3. Failure

Failure is lack of success. People that have ventured into various jobs but failed tend to get discouraged from doing life altogether.

The spirit of discouragement is meant to stop you from pursuing life, and getting to your destiny.

You will hear voices say ridiculous things such as:

You are useless.

Do not bother. Whatever you want to do is not worthwhile. You have tried too much. What makes you think that it is going to be different from the last time?

You cannot do it. Can you really achieve that? Do you think that people that go overseas look like you?

You are not good enough. You are not educated. You don't come from a family whose people can achieve that. You are an orphan.

Discouragement tries to use limiting factors aginst you. Do not be a victim of circumstances. You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength (Phil 4:13)

Where you come from, or the challenges you face should not stop you. All you need to do is put your trust in God.

Psalms 42:11 ' Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.'

Purpose to put your hope in the Almighty God no matter what!
