Spiritual battles 1
In this day and era, we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against principalities, against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Eph 6: 12)
We also don’t avenge against our enemies for the pain they have caused us. We should love and pray for them according to God’s Word in Matt 5:44
There are three main battles that a believer fights:
1. With the devil. The devil attacks and devours at any given chance. This is why we should never give him a foothold (Eph 4: 27) His main business is to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10)
It is for this reason that the Word warns us to be vigilant and watchful for our adversary roams around like a hungry lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8) If you find yourself fighting recurring battles, the devil is on your case.
2. With the world.
3. With the flesh.
WARFARE WITH THE DEVIL
For today, we will focus on this type of battle. As mentioned, the enemy only comes to steal, kill and destroy.
He targets believers to have them discouraged from trusting in God and giving up on faith. There are three main levels in these types of battles:
It is defined as prolonged cruelty or unjust treatment. Anybody under oppression is a slave.
The devil aims at enslaving believers unjustly by afflicting them with pain and disgraceful lives that they do not deserve. The devil has no power to read our minds. He uses what we Say, See and Serve against us.
What we See - What do you allow your eyes to access? Remember the eyes are the gates to the soul. You can choose to defile or purify your soul by what you watch, observe.
What we Say – Since the devil does not read our minds, he needs our words to cause harm.
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit (Prov 18:21) Your words can either speak life, or death. If you say with your own mouth that you will die or are poor, the devil will use that against you.
What we Serve – This is in what we do, our actions. If they are against God’s ordinances and statutes, they give the devil the foothold he aims at having.
This is giving too much thought about something or someone. Have you ever had your mind on something so much that it was hard to focus on other matters?
The devil will pick up something and cause it to dominate your thoughts. At this point, you can’t focus on anything else. You can think so hard about someone up to a point where you become so obsessed with them and end up idolizing them.
This is the state of having or owning something/someone. Possession is the last level where the devil takes control of your life after he has successfully had you oppressed and obsessed.
To have an upper hand in spiritual battles, we must be aware of;
The enemy’s strengths. The strongholds he can use against you. It could be sinful behavior or basically, actions that open to him doors.
The enemy’s location. Where does he attack from? How can you avoid being exactly where the devil wants you to be so that he can have access to you?
The enemy’s strategies. Beware of the possible tactics he could use against you and resist him so that he flees from you.
