Types of Spiritual Warfare Prayers
20 Apr 2023 | By Pst. Gitahi Daniel

There are many types of prayers that a believer can pray. We may not cover all of them here, or go into much details concerning them, but the knowledge of these prayers is important. This knowlegde will help us know what kind of prayers to pray and when.

Defensive Prayers

These are prayers made to defend oneself from attacks.

In the natural world, you will use your hands or whatever you are holding to bar someone or something from hitting you.

That is the same as the spirit world. In this case the attack is already there, you are praying to not be a victim of the attack.

Offensive Prayers

These are prayers made in an attempt to attack. You attack the enemy's camp before he comes for you. Such prayers are important and effective. You don't defend yourself from attacks here, you wage war against the attackers.

Confrontational Prayers

These are prayers full of aggression.

You become violent while struggling for that which you believe belongs to you, or confront the enemy because of a certain situation.

Contending Prayers

To contend is to strive in a certain situation.

We don't contend against flesh and blood, but against  principalities, powers,  rulers of darkness and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Praying in the Spirit

There is a prayer language where the Holy Spirit enables men to pray in other tongues. Praying in Spirit is praying as enabled by the Spirit of God, and not one's flesh.

Reporting Prayers

You report to God in prayers of various happenings. You can tell God what is happening around you and so on.

Prayer of Agreement

These are prayers you pray with others in one accord. Such prayers are usually very powerful.

Matt 18:19 says, 'If two of you agree on anything on earth, it will be done for you by your Father in Heaven.'

ECC 4:12 says 'Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.'

Verse 11 of the above says that if two people lie down together they will keep warm.

Deut 32:30 says one can put one thousand to flight, while two can put ten thousand to flight.

There are situations that will require you to pray with the help of others. Such prayers are very powerful especially when done in unity.

Prayer of Declaration

Job 22:28 says that we will also declare a thing and it shall be established for us.

Declarations, when done properly, are a menace to the kingdom of darkness. There is so much power that God has given to man and it is in how they use their tongues.

Break free by declaring against that situation. A good example of a biblical declaration is, "I will not die, but live to declare the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. "Psalms 118:17

Intercessory Prayer

(Eze 22:30)

The Lord is looking for someone to stand in the gap in a generation, a family, a nation etc.

It is good to stand in the gap.

Align with God's will over a certain issue and pray over it for God's intervention.

Faith Confession Prayer

These prayers are the same as declarations prayers. You declare your faith in a certain situation.

You can be prayerful but lack faith. Prayers made outside faith cannot be effective. If you don't believe, there is no sense in Praying.

There are five enemies of faith that you should be aware of. Don't let them get in the way of your prayers.

 1. Doubt

2. Fear

3. Worry

4. Your own Reasons

5. Unbelief

Travailing Prayer

This is a prayer made in the Spirit by the Spirit. To travail is to engage in painful or laborious efforts.

These prayers are MOVED by the Spirit.

Rom 8:26 says the Spirit makes intercession for us through groanings that cannot be uttered.

2 Peter 1:21 says that prophecy never comes by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were MOVED by the Holy Spirit.

Gal 4:19 talks of the pains of childbirth

'My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you.'

Spiritual Warfare Prayer

Eph 6:13 "Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

We should be armed and armoured

We should be armed with the weapons of warfare, and armoured with the armour of God.

The pieces of the Armour of God are outlined in Eph 6 from verse 13.

The weapons of warfare include the blood of Jesus and the name Jesus.

Matthew 18:18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
