Understanding 1 cor 10:13

1Cor 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

The Word of God acknowledges that there will be temptations in the walk of faith but it also assures us that God will be with us through it all.

There are three main things that we can take from the above scripture as illustrated below,

1. No uncommon temptations

Nothing is strange about how we get tempted today. There were others before us who encountered the same and more.

This means that there is no need to worry.

2. No temptations beyond your ability

David was big enough for Goliath as much as he was young and probably undermined by people when he decided he was going to slay the Phillistine.

No matter how big the temptation looks, it will always match your God-given ability.

3. There is no temptation without a way of escape.

God has His ways in everything. For us, we should stop trying to make God a way in our minds or rather imagine a way He could use.

As long as God allowed it and we are in His plans; in the right standing with Him, He will make a way out.

We need to exercise self control in the midst of these temptations to ensure that we don't sin even when we are so tempted to. Prov 16:32 "Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city."

Prov 25:28 also says that a person that lacks self control is like a city without walls.
